About Me
My name is Maria Farias. I am a professional translator and community interpreter with a background in Law. I am based in Calgary, Alberta, and have experience in Consecutive Interpretation in various community settings. I have also translated legal documents from different Spanish-speaking countries, surveys, flyers, news articles and public announcements, among others, as well as proofreading and editing texts in Spanish.
I have completed the CILISAT assessment, I am a member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA) in the English-to-Spanish combination, and I am registered with Alberta Transportation. I offer my services with
ethical integrity to agencies and private clients.

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?
An interpreter is a professional who conveys a message from one language to another orally. In contrast, a translator performs a similar role but focuses on written communication.
Is an affidavit required for the translation of my driver’s licence?
No. You do not need an affidavit to submit the translation of your Driving Licence because I am registered with Alberta Transportation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will I receive when I request a translation?
The translation package consists of an affidavit (if your document requires it), a Declaration of Translation, the translation itself, and a color copy of the document(s) I translated. I will sign and stamp
all pages.
What is an affidavit?
A written statement of fact that is sworn or affirmed to be true before a Commissioner for Oaths, Justice of the Peace or Notary Public. In the affidavit included in my translations, I declare before a Commissioner of Oaths that I am fluent in both English and Spanish and that I have prepared an accurate and faithful translation. I deliver most of my translation along with an affidavit because I am not a certified translator by ATIA.
Are you a certified translator?
No, I am not a certified translator.
